Two CCG projects have been recognised as leading examples of architecture and building design at this year's GIA's.
The Glasgow Institute of Architects (GIA) is the largest Chapter in the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) and their Design Awards are one of the most prestigious for architectural practices in the city.
The first winner on the night was Page/Park for North Gate, a truly stunning example of urban regeneration that comprises 31 that were delivered by CCG and Page/Park on behalf of New Gorbals Housing Association. Located in the southside of Glasgow, the development is the final piece of the 30-year Crown Street Regeneration and now acts as a new gateway to the south of the city whilst providing high-quality, energy-efficient affordable homes.
North Gate is one of three projects to have been completed as part of the regeneration that included another development of 28 affordable homes as well as new offices for the housing association which was officially opened in 2019.
The second winner of the evening is the hugely innovative Niddrie Road. Also located in the city's southside, the project comprised of eight vacant tenement flats that were retrofitted to a vastly-improved energy performance standard on behalf of Southside Housing Association. Supported by grant funding from Glasgow City Council, the entire building fabric of the end-terrace, including common areas, has been super-insulated whilst triple-glazed windows, enhanced door sets, and new, low-carbon heating systems have been integrated to further support improved airtightness and lower in-use fuel consumption respectively.
A fantastic example of tenement retrofit, the ‘Sustainability' award was given to John Gilbert Architects.
