SGN (Scottish Gas Network) CEO Mark Wild wild delivery the keynote speech at this year's at DeCarbScotland Conference, taking place today, 02 February, in the BT Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.

In his keynote address, Mark will use the opportunity to highlight the role our network in Scotland can play in supporting industrial decarbonisation across the country.

DeCarbScotland is the first ever conference delivered by NECCUS which was established in 2019 to promote and champion industrial decarbonisation across Scotland. The conference has been organised to bring together senior industry and policymakers to discuss the steps that need to be taken to accelerate Scotland's journey to net zero.

Mark will cover:

• The importance of diversity of supply, including hydrogen's role, working alongside electricity, to help deliver a resilient energy system.

• The renewable potential in Scotland, and the opportunity to utilise its resources to generate hydrogen, which not only acts as an energy store but can be used to directly decarbonise a number of critical sectors.

• How, we in SGN, are putting our engineering capabilities to work and making investments right now that will deliver evidence as to how we best utilise the gas network in a net zero world. A lot of this work is taking place in Scotland with projects like H100 Fife and LTS Futures.

Industry leaders from companies and organisations across Scotland which are focused on decarbonisation will be attending the conference. This includes delegates from DNV, Scottish Government, University of Edinburgh, Net Zero Technology Centre, INEOS, Scottish Enterprise, Storega and many more.

Mark said: "We have a great opportunity in Scotland to re-engineer our economy and build a resilient net zero energy system.

"As we look at the year ahead, it is crucial that the Scottish Cluster and the decision on hydrogen blending are understood to be a key part of Scotland's journey to net zero by 2045. I don't think we can deliver net zero without them and the sooner the decisions are made, the better.

"They are a key component towards ensuring Scotland has a just transition from oil and gas to a sustainable future of long-duration green industries for the North Sea workforce and supply chains."
