SSEN Achieves ISO 14001 Certification

Construction News Image
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Distribution has been awarded ISO 14001 certification, in recognition of enhanced and improved environmental performance.

The certification is part of a suite of international standards developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation and provides SSEN with a framework to ensure regulatory compliance and setting, monitoring and achieving environmental objectives.

Achieving ISO 14001 certification is a rigorous process requiring detailed demonstration that SSEN Distribution's Environmental Management System (EMS) complied with the requirements of the standard and had been implemented within the business.

To achieve certification SSEN Distribution prepared work over several months, followed by a comprehensive 15-day audit with an independent third-party certification body to assess compliance against the standard, with auditors visiting offices and depots across the distribution operator's north of Scotland and central southern England regions and interviewing teams across directorates.

Craig Thom, Sustainability Compliance Delivery Manager for SSEN Distribution said: "Achieving ISO 14001 certification is a testament to our unwavering commitment to environmental and sustainability excellence, achieved after a rigorous process involving months of preparation and a comprehensive 15-day audit.

"This significant milestone aligns perfectly with our ambitious Environmental Action Plan and sustainability strategy, which aims to transform operations, behaviours, and industry to power sustainable change.

"It underscores our dedication to being a leading Distribution Network Operator in our journey to achieve net zero."

Achieving ISO 14001 certification is a significant achievement for SSEN Distribution and will assist the distribution operator in managing its environmental and sustainability responsibilities systematically, while progressing its RIIO-ED2 environmental and sustainability business plan objectives.
