Construction News Image
BEAR Scotland has announced a £2 million programme of road surface improvement works for the A82 at Achintore Road.

The works on behalf of Transport Scotland, are scheduled to begin on Sunday 3 September, marking a significant step towards ensuring the longevity of this section of the A82 between South of Druimarbin and the West End Roundabout in Fort William.

To ensure workers' and motorists' safety, the A82 will close nightly between 8pm and 6am over 25 nights (with no works on Friday or Saturday nights). Short amnesty periods (9pm, 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 2am, 4am) will let vehicles through. A 30mph speed limit will be in place during non-work hours due to the temporary road surface before the surfacing is complete. The project is due to be completed by the morning of Friday 6 October, dependant on weather.

Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Noisier operations will be carried out before 11pm to minimise the disturbance to nearby locals and residents at the hotels and guest houses. All of the workforce will be reminded of the need to keep noise to a minimum.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the resurfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland's North West Representative, said: "This project at the A82 Achintore Road is crucial, addressing road defects and enhancing the driving experience for motorists. The temporary night closures are an essential measure to guarantee the safety of both our road workers and the public.

"We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information."

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
