SSE Renewables has launched a public consultation on a potential Dogger Bank D, proposed fourth phase of Dogger Bank Wind Farm.
Dogger Bank D is a potential new fourth phase of the Dogger Bank Wind Farm, the world's largest offshore wind farm, which is currently under construction. The project team is working closely with The Crown Estate to agree the progression of Dogger Bank D. If progressed for delivery, Dogger Bank D would be located in the North Sea around 210 km off the northeast coast of England. Subject to further technical studies, the project could be capable of generating up to around 2GW of renewable power.
Different opportunities are being explored in parallel by the project development team to utilise the energy that could be produced by Dogger Bank D.
These include:
• Electrical transmission – providing electricity for homes and businesses by linking to the UK transmission system, either via a grid connection into the national grid or a connection offshore to a wider coordinated grid network to Europe.
• Producing hydrogen – the wind farm could be connected to a new large-scale onshore facility located in the East Riding of Yorkshire to produce hydrogen via electrolysis. The hydrogen produced could connect to a wider hydrogen network and support the decarbonisation of energy-intensive industries in the Humber. In the public consultation, two sites near Aldbrough and Saltend have been identified as possible locations for a Hydrogen Production Facility, alongside potential infrastructure corridors.
The consultation will provide the opportunity for the community to find out more about the project, ask questions and share feedback. The feedback will be used to help guide the project as it continues to develop its proposals ahead of its potential application to the Planning Inspectorate and Secretary of State for a Development Consent Order as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project.
Rob Cussons, Project Manager at Dogger Bank D, said: "We look forward to welcoming the public to our consultation events for Dogger Bank D and for local communities to learn more about our proposals. It's really important that local people have the opportunity to come and talk to the team and share their views with us. We are looking forward to sharing our ideas with local communities and listening to what they have to say."
