Refurbished Play Park In Croy Officially Opens

Construction News Image
A newly refurbished play park in the village of Croy near Inverness has officially opened.

The refurbished play park in Ardcroy Road was made possible thanks to £50K of Place Based Investment Funding and £20,000 of repurposed COVID funding, which was approved at June’s meeting of Inverness City Committee.

The refurbishment project was delivered following a consultation and supported by Croy Primary School and Hugh Urquhart in his role of (registered) Parent Volunteer for the school.

Parents and pupils from the school were involved in choosing the final designs and came up with ideas for what they wanted to see at the park.

The refurbished park now includes a new embankment slide, swings, an inclusive roundabout (which is low enough to be used by wheelchair users) and an activity trail.

The new installations join the already present climbing frame which was retained and springers.

The installation works took two months and the park remained open either side of the installation process.

Culloden and Ardersier member and Provost of Inverness, Glynis Campbell-Sinclair, said: "We are all too aware of the harm caused by the COVID pandemic on young people, who were unable to socialise and mix with their friends during difficult periods of national lockdown.

"The members of the Culloden and Ardersier ward are all delighted to have been able to direct Place Based Investment funding and remaining COVID funding to help deliver this fantastic facility for the children of Croy.

"Outdoor play and socialising with friends are very important for children and has well-documented benefits in terms of their physical and mental health, something which was badly affected during the pandemic.

"We hope this park will be enjoyed by children today and well as many others the future."
