SSEN Transmission has announced the launch of an innovative new data portal, as part of its ongoing net zero strategy.
Digitalisation of the energy industry is critical in supporting the ambitious targets set by the UK and Scottish governments in their commitment to decarbonise all sectors of the UK economy by 2050.
As a stakeholder-led business, SSEN Transmission have said that they believe making their data more accessible is fundamental in achieving that target, but also crucial in delivering their Pathway to 2030 programme, which sets the blueprint for the expansion of the electricity transmission network infrastructure needed to enable the forecasted growth in renewable energy generation across the UK.
SSEN Transmission has announced that they have built an Open Data Portal, hosted by OpenDataSoft, which provides easy access to data for customers and other stakeholders, and is supplemented by a wide range of additional data sets and features.
The Open Data Portal will ensure that data that has been classified as 'Open' will be managed efficiently and securely.
James McLean, Chief Information Officer, Transmission, said: "The introduction of our Open Data Portal marks another milestone in our Digital Transformation journey. The publicly accessible platform we are introducing today, provides a single transparent interface for Stakeholders seeking to access key datasets. We will continue to invest in our data strategies to ensure access to data is efficient, consistent and more intuitive.
"Initially, we will seek to provide access to the data that is requested most often. This has been led by what our customers and stakeholders frequently require access to. Moving forward, we will increase the range and volume of data that's openly accessible, and we are working closely with our internal teams to ensure we focus on data that will not only benefit our customers and stakeholders, but will accelerate the work we need to do across the industry, as part of our commitment to achieving Net Zero. Our portal will also provide users with the opportunity to request new data sets for publication.
"Through our Open Data portal, we're unlocking the power of data to supercharge wider understanding of SSEN Transmission's electricity network today and for the future. Join us on this journey by making the most of data and use this to support innovation across the energy sector."
