SSEN Announce Additional £5.2m Network Investment

Construction News Image
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Distribution has announced a further £5.2 million investment to boost the resilience and flexibility of its infrastructure for those living and working in Hampshire.

Starting on 12 January and running through to September this year, the multi-million-pound upgrade will focus on future-proofing the electricity network for homes and businesses the Fleet and Church Crookham areas of Hampshire.

This network resilience project will improve the existing infrastructure for the community through the replacement and reinforcement of the underground cable infrastructure, supplying power to some 48,000 local customers.

Working in and around the Fleet electrical substation in Coxmoor Wood, SSEN will remove older, existing cables, replacing them with more modern, efficient and sustainable cabling that will boost the network, as well as providing the flexibility needed to meet the needs of local customers now and for many years to come.

SSEN's Project Manager Daniel Stickells said: "This is a big project, but it's been designed to minimise any inconvenience or impact on people who live and work nearby. It will develop the network to meet customers' needs now, and as they take up more low-carbon technologies in the years ahead.

"In addition to providing the flexibility that will accommodate an increase in items such as electric vehicles, heat pumps and solar panels, this significant upgrade will also boost power supplies to make them more robust in the face of adverse weather events."

A dedicated project page has been set up by SSEN for anyone wanting to find out more about the works, which can be accessed via www.ssen.co.uk/about-ssen/our-works/fleet-network-investment/.

SSEN will also be holding a drop-in event for customers, so they can meet the project team, discuss the works and ask any questions they may have:

Wednesday 17 January – 3.00pm to 7.00pm at Ewshot Village Hall, Tadpole Lane, Ewshot, Farnham, GU10 5BX

While there are no planned supply interruptions for the duration of the works, SSEN would like to remind its customers of its Priority Services Register, which can assist them in the event of a power cut.
