Scottish Water Announces £2m Supply Network Investment

Construction News Image
Scottish Water has announced an investment of £2 million for supply network upgrade works in Springburn and Robroyston to support the development of around 5,000 new homes.

Through its commercial subsidiary Scottish Water Horizons, the publicly owned utility is upgrading critical infrastructure and installing over a mile of new pipework.

Horizons Project Manager Greg Small said: "We are committed to supporting sustainable economic growth and connecting new developments to our supply network.

"Robroyston in particular is experiencing a rapid growth in new housing requiring the existing infrastructure to be upgraded and new water main pipes installed.

"This project will allow the extra demand to be met and will ensure customers enjoy a reliable and resilient supply."

The work will be carried out in a series of phases at five locations across Springburn and Robroyston from the end of May 2024 for approximately six months. It includes upgrading Cockmill Pumping Station in Springburn Park and installing over a mile of new water main.

A key phase will be centred on the exit slip road from Robroyston Retail Park – Monument Drive – where the existing water main will be moved across the carriageway and into the grass verge.

The work is scheduled for early July 2024 and will require lane closures on the roundabout, Monument Drive and B765 towards the M80 motorway.

Greg Small added: "We appreciate there is the potential for delays, and we will be working with businesses to make sure their customers are aware of what is happening and can plan accordingly.

"As always, we will do all we can to mitigate any disruption where possible. We would like to thank residents, road users and retail park customers in advance for their patience and understanding."

The work is being carried out by Scottish Water's delivery partner George Leslie Ltd.
