Path Improvement Work Complete In Paisley

Construction News Image
In collaboration with Renfrewshire Council, Sustrans has developed a 380 metre sealed-surface path, enhancing connections between suburban communities and the National Cycle Network.

Celebrations were held at Jenny's Well Nature Reserve in Paisley following a transformation of the local path network.

Additional covered bike parking and a cycle repair station have also been installed as part of the project, as well as barriers removed to increase accessibility for all users.

The improvements offer opportunities for anyone living and working in the Paisley area, from safer low-traffic journeys to school to more convenient access to rail stations and nearby leisure facilities.

The installation of a new bridge across the White Cart Water by Miller Developments has only added further to the benefits of the scheme, ensuring residents of the nearby housing estate are able to get on the National Cycle Network directly for the first time.

Safeguarding biodiversity has been a major part of the project vision, too, as National Cycle Network Route 7 and 75 run directly through Jenny’s Well Nature Reserve.

Working closely with Friends of Jenny's Well Nature Reserve, the new link paths allow visitors to seamlessly explore the nature of their doorstep without disturbing the native wildlife, including otters and deer.

In attendance were representatives from all those involved in the project delivery, including Sustrans, Renfrewshire Council, Miller Developments, and Friends of Jenny’s Well Nature Reserve.

Karen McGregor, Director of Sustrans, said: "The National Cycle Network is a lifeline for so many people across Scotland where routes like these can make a difference in people getting to work and school safely. Thanks to this project, people living around Jenny’s Well are now able to walk, wheel and cycle every day protected from traffic, improving health and offering all new opportunities to experience nature."

The improvements were funded by the Sustrans with the backing of Transport Scotland. Additional contributions were received from Friends of Jenny's Well Nature Reserve, Renfrewshire Council and Miller Developments.
