BEAR Scotland To Carry Out Concrete Repairs On A1 At Innerwick

Construction News Image
The A1 is scheduled for a 1.4km carriageway upgrade, with 24 nights of work planned at Innerwick Junction from September 2 to 25.

BEAR Scotland will carry out concrete repairs on the northbound carriageway nightly from 7.30pm to 6am.

Traffic management will be in the form of temporary traffic lights with a convoy system in place for northbound traffic.

On the night of Sunday 8 September, access to and from the A1 southbound at Innerwick Junction will be restricted, with signed diversion routes in place as follows:

Road users on the local road from Innerwick intending to turn south onto the A1 will be diverted via the A1 northbound to turn at Spott Roundabout before returning southbound. This diversion will add approximately 5.6 miles and 6 minutes to affected journeys.

Southbound road users on the A1 intending to exit right at Innerwick Junction will be diverted via the A1 southbound to turn at Cockburnspath Roundabout before returning north and accessing Innerwick Junction from the A1 northbound. This diversion will add approximately 8.3 miles and 10 minutes to affected journeys.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland's South East Network Manager, said: "These concrete repair works will improve safety and the quality of the road for motorists using the A1.

"Due to the nature of these repairs, we have been able to utilise a convoy traffic management system, allowing the A1 to remain open during these essential works.

"If you need to travel on the A1 northbound during these works, our advice is to allow a few extra minutes for your journey.

"We're grateful to road users and local communities for their patience and understanding while we complete these improvements."
