One of the flagship projects of Renfrewshire Council's £100m PPP investment in new schools has been officially opened.
The £8.3m West Johnstone Campus accommodates two primary schools, a community learning centre and a family centre at one location. It caters for a combined total of 436 pupils, learners and children and 63 staff.
"This unique facility is a tremendous asset to the community," said Renfrewshire Council leader Derek Mackay.
Councillor Lorraine Cameron, convener of Renfrewshire Council's education policy board, added: "This unique project allows four education services to retain their distinctive strengths and approaches while taking advantage of modern integrated facilities."
A two-storey building houses St David's Primary School and Cochrane Castle Primary School in separate wings, with a further shared area including a dining hall and a gymnasium.
The West Johnstone Learning Centre features three purpose-built playrooms and has two general purpose rooms which are used by youth and community groups.
There are also two rooms equipped with the latest information and communications technology. Learners can take part in a range of courses and classes to improve health, develop social skills or boost employment prospects. There is also a crèche within the learning centre to overcome childcare barriers to learning.
Speaking on behalf of all the facilities represented at the West Johnstone Campus, Mary Reid, head teacher of St David's Primary, said: "Our campus is unique in Renfrewshire and brings together four independent establishments working side by side for the mutual benefit of all."
