Inverclyde councillors have visited Larkfield Boxing Club.
The Boxing Club was awarded £8,500 from the Council's Grants to Voluntary Organisations fund to help it set up in new premises at the Larkfield No 2 club in Greenock's Stafford Road.
The club had to move out of its old home in Norfolk Road, which is due to be demolished. Their new building, which had been lying derelict for some time, will be gradually refurbished and new equipment will be purchased.
After a cheque was presented to the club, councillors Gerry Dorrian, Joe McIlwee, Jim Clocherty, Ciano Rebecchi and Ronnie Ahlfeld, along with the Council's Regeneration Director Aubrey Fawcett, took time to watch coaches Adam Robertson and Iain Williamson work with the many young people who attend the club.
Councillor Dorrian, ward councillor for Larkfield, said: "I was absolutely delighted to be able to present the club with a cheque for £8,500 to allow them to thrive in their new location. The club has been such an important part of the Larkfield community for many years and I'm very pleased to see them settling in. I'm sure they will now go from strength to strength."
The club's Honorary President, Gerry Deeney, said: "The grant from the Council has really helped us get going again, and I am delighted with the support from the councillors - it's great to have them come along to see what's going on here. The club has worked wonders in bringing the young people of Larkfield together and it’s brilliant to have it up and running again in time for the summer holidays. This is a new beginning for us."
