Angus Glens Primary School Land Purchased

Plans for a new primary school in the Angus glens have taken a significant step forward with the approval by Angus Council to purchase land for the building.

Agreement has been reached with the landownder for a site at Peel Farm for the new £2.6m school.

Recognising that the school buildings at Kilry, Glenisla and Lintrathen were in a poor condition, the council embarked on a lengthy consultation process with local people about future educational provision in the glens.


Following the consultation, the council took the decision last year to amalgamate the three schools with a purpose built school at Peel Farm. The purchase of the site for the sum of £90,000 was approved by council's Corporate Services Executive Sub Committee on July 24.

Corporate Services Convener, Mark Salmond said: "I am delighted that the purchase of the land for a new glens school has been agreed by committee, bringing this vital project a step closer. This is one of the most significant investments in the Angus glens for many years and will provide an asset for the whole community."

Councillor Nield, Convener of Education, said: "I am grateful to the Corporate Services Sub Committee for approving this transaction as this will now enable us to get work on the site started at the earliest opportunity to provide glens communities with their first 21st century school."
