Home Scotland, which is leading the regeneration of East Balornock in the north east of the city, will begin pulling down Knockburn Primary School tomorrow. The demolition will result in work being able to start on the first phase of 56 new homes.
In total, Home Scotland will build 229 properties for affordable rent over the next six to seven years. An additional 79 new homes could also be built if people who currently own their properties in the area decide they would like the opportunity of buying a new home.

Once the 56 homes are built on the school site, nearby properties vacated by the residents moving in the first phase will then be knocked down and replaced with new houses. This process will continue until the scheme is complete.
Margarita Morrison, Managing Director of Home Scotland, said: "Demolishing the school has always been the key to starting work on the physical regeneration of East Balornock, but a lot of work has already been undertaken to involve local people in the process.
"We have carried out detailed consultations, including setting up a residents design group that worked with Home Scotland to shape the way the new community will look, as well as asking people what new retail and community facilities they would like to see.
"East Balornock is one of Home Scotlands largest regeneration schemes and we are determined to provide quality homes and a community that generations will be proud of, and which local people have had ownership of."
