Work Starts On Amenity Housing Complex

Building work has started on a new £2.7m amenity housing complex at Cessnock Gardens in Hurlford Ayrshire, designed by architectural Practice Lawrence McPherson Associates.

The development will feature 26 secure retirement homes built round an attractive courtyard garden area.

These will include single and two bedroom single-storey houses and four wheelchair standard properties. The first residents are expected to move in to their new homes there in summer 2009.

This is the first major project Lawrence McPherson Associates has undertaken for Shire Housing Association under a new framework agreement, which will see the company help roll-out Shire's new build programme in East Ayrshire over the next four years.

The homes are being built in partnership with East Ayrshire Council.

Stephen McGhee, Partner with Lawrence McPherson Associates, said: "We are delighted to be on site and see work start on this project. It has taken months of work by all parties to secure a viable funding package to get the project to site."

He added: "This is an interesting project as the complex is aimed at older people who are not ready for sheltered housing but want to feel they are living in a safe and secure environment."

The company has been working with Shire on a project-to-project basis for the last two years and is currently on site with a development of 47 mainstream homes at Kings Way in Cumnock.

Shire Housing Association Ltd was formed in March 1997 as a result of the transfer of some 1100 houses from Scottish Homes to the Association’s ownership.
