Morrison Construction Apprentice Highly Commended for Top Industry Award

Bricklayer Daniel McLennan of Morrison Construction, part of the Galliford Try Group, was recently acknowledged as one of the nation's most up-and-coming craftsmen when he won Highly Commended in the Adult Apprentice section of The Scottish Building Apprenticeship & Training Council - (SBATC) James Birnie Award.

Daniel, who is currently working on the £7.8 million construction of the new Highland Archive Centre in Inverness, was presented with a plaque and a prize of £150 during a ceremony at the City Chambers in Glasgow. The award which was initiated by former President of Scottish Building, James Birnie MBE, serves to demonstrate and reward the significant skills acquired by dedicated, talented apprentices within the construction industry.

Speaking of his achievement, Daniel aged 27, from Evanton, Ross-shire said: "I was absolutely stunned when I found out I had been Highly Commended for the award.

"I studied on an access course at college and then I fancied becoming a bricklayer. Building runs in my family - my Grandfather was a stonemason.

"Morrison Construction has been a really good company to work for. The company is very keen to push you on to reach your full potential."

Daniel has long-term ambitions of becoming a Project Manager and is also keen to further his craftsmanship skills with the possibility of following his Grandfather into stonemasonry.
