Miller Wins £7m Care Home Project

Miller Construction has been awarded a £7m project to build a new residential and community care centre in Staveley, Derbyshire.

The 65 week project will see Miller Construction create a two-storey residential home, complete with a single-storey day centre, in the Middlecroft area of the town.

With assistance from the Dementia Services Development Centre at Stirling University, the residential area of the centre will utilise the latest design techniques to assist patients suffering from dementia.

Once complete, the centre will act as a focal point for delivering a wide range of services to older people in Staveley, ranging from long-term residential care to day services including support, care and information.

As a result, it is hoped that the centre will be able to prevent unnecessary stays in hospital while also providing rehabilitation and respite care for those returning from hospital.

Simon Butler, area director for Miller Construction in the Midlands, said: "This is the third such residential home we have delivered for Derbyshire County Council, following similar projects in Chapel-en-le-Frith and Castle Gresley, and in each case, the centres are a crucial part of delivering adult services in Derbyshire.

"In Staveley, the combination of residential and day care facilities will play a key role in allowing the council to extend care, support and choice in the community, helping people to live independently in their own homes.

"Because of these specialist facilities, it was even more important that the council had a contractor with our skills and expertise to deliver such a project successfully."

Derbyshire County Council cabinet member for adult social services Councillor Dave Allen said: "One of our top priorities is to provide excellent quality care for older people across Derbyshire and the new centre sums up that pledge.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the centre open its doors and develop as a hub for older people’s services, supporting them to live at home yet catering for the most complex needs at the same time."
