The Highland Council is carrying out works between Portree and Loch Fada on the A855 Staffin road in Skye to improve the carriageway to twin track width.

Highland Quality Construction Ltd. (HQC) are the contractors for this £500,000 contract, which attracted ERDF funding.

To carry out these works adjacent to the existing road, a temporary road closure has been put in order. These closures will take place between 11.15 am – 12.45 pm and 1:30 pm – 4 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday between Tuesday 2 December and Friday 19 December and then from Monday 5 January, 2009 until Friday 27 February, 2009.

The traffic will be stopped up at Loch Fada car park, southbound, and at the Torvaig junction for northbound traffic.

Vehicular access will be permitted as far as Torvaig from Portree during the closure. Staffin traffic may use an alternative route via the A87 Uig road. This alternative is not suitable for Heavy Good Vehicles.
