Shepherd And Wedderburn Secures Leases For North Rhins Wind Farm

Leading UK law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn acted for Wind Energy (North Rhins) Limited to secure four leases, complete the Section 75 Agreement, negotiate the construction contract, and to enable financing for the 22 MW North Rhins wind farm in Dumfries and Galloway near Portpatrick. The leases will run for 25 years.

The wind farm scheme, which was granted planning permission in October 2008, will comprise 11 turbines and is expected to generate the same amount of electricity that is consumed by 10,000 residences each year, assuming wind resource forecasts are accurate and assuming monthly consumption of 500kWh per residence. The company expects to generate electricity from the site by the end of 2009.

Shepherd and Wedderburn property partner Hugh Smith led the team and said: "This significant deal involved negotiations with a number of different parties to ensure that compatible leases were in place with all the relevant landowners.

"The leases, the Section 75 Agreement, and the balance of plant construction contract were carefully arranged to ensure successful placement of project financing. Wind Energy (North Rhins) Limited has been investigating the site since 2004 and we’re pleased to see the scheme reach this key stage in its development."

Shepherd and Wedderburn also provides similar services to the Wind Energy group's other development activities throughout Scotland.
