A933 Arbroath Junction Improvement Consultation

Views on the options for improvements to the A933 Forfar Road/Cairnie Road/Keptie Road junction in Arbroath are being sought.

The Angus Council is considering a change to the existing junction to reduce the delays currently being experienced at peak times, particularly on the Keptie Road approach.

The questionnaire is available locally as well as through council offices.

In addition the survey has been issued to a number of specific consultees, including the local community council, business association and chamber of commerce, the emergency services, bus and taxi operators, the road haulage association, residents and businesses in the immediate vicinity.

The council's Infrastructure Services convener David May said the delays were the source of considerable frustration to those using the junction.

"In addition to the frustration caused to motorists, accident statistics record three slight personal injury accidents in the vicinity of the junction within the last three years up to August 2008, with two of these accidents involving pedestrians.

"The council is therefore looking at the options available to us to improve the junction.

"A couple of initial ideas have been ruled out because the additional land needed and the impact on access to the cemetery and the residential area made them unsuitable and too costly.

"We are now asking for views on two options for the junction - a mini roundabout or traffic signal control."

The questionnaires issued by the council set out the advantages and disadvantages of both options as assessed by the council's traffic team and Tayside Police.

The closing date for submissions is Monday 23 March 2009.

Councillor May encouraged people to submit their views saying: "This junction is widely used by both local people and many others coming in and out of Arbroath. We are keen to capture as broad a range of views as possible so in addition to the 2000 locally available survey forms the survey is open to everyone on the Have Your Say section of the council's website where it can be easily completed and submitted."
