Edinburgh House Exchange Goes Online

Edinburgh tenants of social landlords and the council seeking to exchange properties are being given the opportunity to do so online for the first time ever.

The City of Edinburgh Council is managing this service on behalf of social landlords in the city; which will see countless home seekers put in touch with those in the similar circumstances.

By logging onto www.edinburgh.houseexchange.org.uk tenants can avail of this free service. Tenants simply log their details and that of their property and then identify what kind of a property they wish to move to. Their landlord, either the Council or a registered social landlord, will then check the details they have added and if approved they will be free to search other properties that are also available online.

EdIndex, Edinburgh's common housing register has recently introduced the free, online service called the Edinburgh House Exchange. This move comes in response to a demand from tenants across the city for an efficient service to help them swap their homes.

Councillor Paul Edie, Housing Leader, thinks the new service will prove very useful for those looking for a new home, he said: "People swap houses for all sorts of reasons from needing more space to wanting to be closer to work or family. This is such a useful tool as it allows people to make a mutually beneficial swap. In addition, it means we are potentially easing some of the strain on an already extremely busy system, which sees an average of 150 bids on every property that becomes available."

One of the main benefits of the new service to tenants is that they will find it easier to search for a suitable match with a tenant of another landlord on Edinburgh House Exchange.
