Average council house rents in Midlothian are more than 12% below the Scottish national average – according to an analysis of figures provided by the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (Cosla).
Following a national average annual increase in local authority rents this year of 6.9%, the gap between Midlothian Council house rents and the national average has increased to £6.50 per week.

Midlothian council tenants have the 4th lowest average weekly rent in Scotland at £46.29 a week, the lowest is Moray Council at £40.77 per week, while Edinburgh is the most expensive in Scotland at £65.48 per week.
Councillor Derek Milligan, Leader of Midlothian Council, said: "I am pleased that sound financial management has enabled us to increase the gap in the national average and still be on track to meet the Scottish Housing Quality Standard and pay for Midlothian Council's housing investment programme which will increase the council housing stock by 1,000 homes."
