Celebration Day To Mark Larghan Victory Park Refurbishment

A special free family fun day will be held at Coupar Angus's Larghan Victory Park on Saturday 6 June to celebrate the completion of a £400,000 refurbishment project.

The major park improvement project, which began in November 2008, has created an exciting new play area, a path network throughout the park, new toilets and a new pedestrian entrance from the Forfar/Ardler Road Junction.

These works were funded by a partnership including Perth & Kinross Council, The Coupar Angus Regeneration Trust, The Gannochy Trust, Awards for All, Tayside Biodiversity Fund, and the Quality of Life Trust.

The park was designed and the works were overseen by the Council's Parks Development Team who worked closely with the community throughout. The works were successfully implemented by JKF Contractors within the programme and on budget.

Environment Convener, Councillor Alan Grant said: "The regeneration work on Larghan Victory Park is a further example of the Council's commitment to upgrading the valuable community resource that is provided by local parks and open spaces. Our aim is to enable these facilities to be used and enjoyed by future generations.

"We have put in place significant investment with the support of external partners. This has already seen parks in Aberfeldy, Scone and Kinross regenerated and work is now complete at Larghan Victory Park. The park is an important green space in Coupar Angus and this work will ensure it can continue to make a positive contribution to the local quality of life."

Improvements to the park's management and maintenance will be ongoing as part of the Council's aim for its key open spaces to meet national Green Flag Award Standards.

People can go along to the upgraded park and join in the fun from 12-4 pm. There will be many free activities for children and adults, including performances by Perthshire Brass and local skiffle bands, falconry displays, breathtaking skate and BMX competitions, hands-on art workshops and exhibitions and numerous community market stalls.

For younger kids there will be a chance to clown around with Ickle Tickle and Clown Stevie, as well as treasure hunts, free face painting, fun science experiments and games.
