Nominations are now open and organisers are hoping that this year will see the biggest ever competition for the awards. Companies, communities and individuals can nominate themselves or others online from the awards website.

The awards bring together around 800 trailblazers from the world of energy, academia and politics competing for nine awards spanning categories including best student project through to outstanding individuals who have led the industry with ground breaking and innovative projects.

Calum McCallum, Events and Initiatives Manager at Scottish Renewables said: "The Green Energy Awards 2009 is a celebration of those who have made big contributions to the success of renewable energy in Scotland. With challenging carbon reduction targets from the Scottish Government and eyes looking towards the Copenhagen Summit on Climate Change in December, renewable energy is at the forefront of combating climate change.

"The event will be held in early December just before the world meets and will provide an excellent barometer of what the Scottish industry is achieving and what it needs continue to do through the enthusiasm, skill, ingenuity and dedication of all those involved."
