Viv Lumsden And Alan Douglas Do A Spot Of DIY At RHSC

Former TV Home Show stars Viv Lumsden and Alan Douglas popped in to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Yorkhill for a spot of DIY.

They were there at the invitation of Glasgow accountants Martin Aitken & Co who this year decided to make Yorkhill Children's Foundation their chosen charity.

Through a variety of fundraising activities, the warm-hearted accountants have raised £8000 and are well on their way to achieve their target figure of £10,000.

Martin Aitken Partner Elaine Dyer said: "One of the treatment rooms in the Outpatients Department at Yorkhill needs freshened up. So because they have lots of experience of makeovers, and since they now have grandchildren themselves, we invited Viv and Alan along to see work starting with the money we've helped raise."

Alan Douglas said: "We've taken our own children to A&E at Yorkhill on a couple of occasions and two of our grandchildren were born just next door. As former TV news reporters, we also both know only too well the fantastic work that goes on there, so we're delighted to help make the place even better."

Elaine explained some of the imaginative ways in which the Seaward Street firm has raised the £8,000 so far.

"Our staff five-a-side football team offered "personal services" by drawing up a list of the things they would do in return for charity cash. These included grass-cutting, car-washing, making lunch, tea and coffee, and football coaching for youngsters. That alone raised over £1,600, a tremendous effort."

Elaine added: "Martin Aitken is delighted to support Yorkhill Children's Foundation which day in day out does incredible work for children. They can count on us!"

Yorkhill Children's Foundation aims to provide funding for extra medical equipment, family support services and fun and games which make a stay in hospital less distressing for children and their families.
