Sustainable energy solutions firm Active is advising companies in Scotland to take note of new regulations that mean it is now illegal to operate without an F Gas company certificate.
An F Gas company certificate demonstrates that businesses have taken adequate steps to contain, prevent and reduce emissions of harmful greenhouse gases, thus helping to combat climate change.
From 4th July 2009, it became a legal requirement for all businesses that install, maintain or service stationary refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump equipment containing F Gas refrigerants to obtain certification.
Active was one of the first companies in Scotland to obtain the certificate. The firm is a leading provider of sustainable heating and cooling systems, for both commercial and residential construction projects, specialising in micro-renewables and efficient air-conditioning and ventilation.
Ian Nicol, managing director of Active, said: "If you have not already applied for a company certificate you should do so immediately, as it is now a criminal offence under The Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases Regulations 2009 to carry out any of the above activities without certification.
"Many industry sectors are affected and it's not black and white as to exactly where the obligation for certification lies; in some cases it’s with the owner/operator of the equipment whereas in other situations it will be third parties, such as suppliers, maintenance contractors and waste handling companies."
All businesses which are affected by the regulations must obtain either an Interim Company Certificate or a Stationary Equipment Qualification Company Certificate immediately.
Active has offices in both Aberdeen and Inverness and employs over 100 people across the North and North East of Scotland.
The firm recently launched its new headquarters, the Active Renewable Energy Centre, in Altens, Aberdeen, which is believed to be one of the most energy efficient buildings in the UK.
