Live Educational Building Refurb Completed

Ayr-based building contractors William Skinner & Son have successfully completed a £260k refurbishment of the Modern Languages and Religious Education Departments of Queen Margaret Academy.

The project was part of the ongoing schools rebuilding and refurbishment programme currently being carried out by South Ayrshire Council.

The contract was carried out within a "live" educational building where security and safety were paramount.

In order to ensure educational continuity for the pupils and the minimum disruption to the school's activities, the work included the erection of temporary classrooms behind safety barriers so that lessons could continue uninterrupted safely away from the construction work while the project was being carried out.

The majority of the works were carried out by William Skinner & Son's all trades, directly employed tradesmen.

The remainder of the work was co-ordinated by Skinners, and was of a mechanical and electrical nature.

A high standard of workmanship was delivered in the 8 classroom refurbishment and toilets. Internal curved partitioning was installed to form a central open plan teaching/study area in the atrium, and the works were completed with decoration to all areas.

William Skinner & Son Managing Director Sandy Cunningham said: "We value the relationship that we have built up with South Ayrshire Council, and are pleased to have completed this latest part of their schools refurbishment programme.

"With our Southern Division based in Cambridgeshire, our company now operates on a national basis, but we will always remain true to our roots here in Ayrshire."
