Planning Guidance On Conservation Villages

Conservation Areas Appraisals have been carried out for Letham, Allandale and Muirhouses highlighting the unique qualities of the built heritage in these three villages and residents will soon have an opportunity to comment.

It is intended that clearer planning guidance will follow to ensure that the special character, heritage and historical aspects of these settlements is preserved for future generations.


Falkirk Councillor Adrian Mahoney, Convener of the Leisure, Tourism and Community Committee said: "There are nine conservation areas across the Falkirk Council area and it's important to recognise the role they have each played in the area's rich, social and industrial heritage.

"Planning guidance in conservation areas helps preserve the historical character of these settlements and ensures that any alterations are sympathetic to the original character."

Community consultations form the final part of the Conservation Area Appraisals which will take part with residents before the end of 2009.

Views will be sought from owners, occupiers and lessees in Letham, Allandale and Muirhouses and local and national agencies including Historic Scotland, Scottish Civic Trust and Architecture and Design Scotland.
