A PROFITABLE ROLL OF UNDERFLOOR HEATING
Electric underfloor heating has become a very popular way to heat tiled floors in bathrooms, kitchens and conservatories or wherever a tiled floor is laid. Now electric underfloor heating is about to become the ideal choice for heating wood laminate or even real timber floors. Traditionally, the only way to electrically heat this type of floor covering was to bury the heating cables under a screed of self-levelling compound before laying the final floor finish. The problems with this system is that it introduces a 'wet' process into the laying of laminate floors plus it tends to raise the level of the finished floor causing difficulties with skirting and door thresholds.
Flexel have now introduced their Ecofilm Underfloor Heating Element to the general electrical distribution market. Traditionally available only in the specialist floor covering markets through specialist installers as a custom product, Ecofilm has now been introduced in a pre-packaged format making it suitable for off-the-shelf distribution to the electrical trade.
EcofilmSet is an extremely tough film, inlaid longitudinally with two robust copper strips that are interconnected by numerous conductive, carbon cross members. This heating film has a heat output of 130 Watts/square metre which makes it suitable as a primary heat source in most applications.
Simple and economic to install EcofilmSet is available in three different widths (300mm, 500mm & 1000mm) with standard lengths in 0.5 metre increments up to 8 metres. The element comes prewired with 5 metre 'cold tails' and element lengths can easily be reduced on site to ensure maximum floor coverage. Customers simply purchase sufficient strips for their jobs. Only simple two-wire electrical mains connections to the copper strips are required to provide gentle and safe heating comfort.
This form of heating, easily controlled by room thermostats, is particularly suited to new build, extensions, hard-to-heat areas, conservatories, hallways, kitchens and bathrooms, and becomes invaluable in many other locations where the absence of radiators is a distinct space-saving advantage.
Fitting simply involves preliminary sub floor preparation, laying Ecomax-Lite insulation, rolling out the Flexel element, making and testing the electrical connections and then laying a polyester vapour barrier over the whole installation before putting down the laminate floor. Electrical connection is made directly to a 230v mains supply by a competent electrician.
Flexel International is renowned for supplying quality, relevant products to the underfloor heating industry. Details of their Ecofilm Underfloor Heating Element, Ecoflex Underfloor Heating cable and Ecofloor Underfloor Heating Mat products are freely available on request.
