East Ayrshire Housing Allocation Policy Meeting

East Ayrshire Council is currently working with its partners to develop a common Housing Allocation Policy and they need the views of tenants and residents to help fully develop the policy.

The new policy will involve Atrium Homes, Cunninghame Housing Association, Shire Housing Association and the Council and will mean that people wishing to apply for a house to rent from one or all of these landlords will only complete one application form rather than separate forms for each landlord.

A common Allocation Policy coupled with a Common Housing Register will simplify the way in which applicants apply for housing and are allocated social housing with partner landlords within East Ayrshire.


A joint working group made up of Council officers and representatives from each organisation has been working on proposals for the new common policy and is now ready to take this out to wider consultation.

Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of the Council said: "The Council has been working closely with our partners to prepare proposals to improve the lives of our tenants and to simplify the process of applying for housing. I would ask however that tenants and residents attend the public meetings and give their views on the proposals. It is a great opportunity to help shape future policy and all feedback will be welcomed."

As part of this consultation two public meetings have been arranged and will be held on Monday 19 October 2009 at 7pm in the Grand Hall Kilmarnock and Thursday 22 October 2009 at 7pm in Cumnock Town Hall.
