The work, which is being carried out by Highland Quality Construction, started this week and will take around five weeks to complete, depending on weather conditions.
This involves the removal of sediment from the section of the burn from upstream of MacDonald Smith Drive to the railway culvert.

The material will be removed from the burn, initially to adjacent land to allow it to drain, before being transported to landfill for appropriate disposal.
Angus Councillor David May, the council's Infrastructure Services Convener, welcomed the start of the work, saying: "Thankfully, the ground conditions have improved enough to allow the contractor to start work.
"The dredging should improve the capacity of the burn, something that the council will continue to monitor when the works have been completed. That will inform our continuing work to ensure the effective operation of the Barry Burn flood prevention scheme in the future."
