A wide-ranging consultation plan that could help shape the future of land use in four local authority areas has been given the green light.
A report detailing the exercise, which will consult politicians, planners, academics, business, young people and communities has been agreed at the TAYplan joint committee.
TAYplan, the Strategic Development Planning Authority, was set up in 2008 to create a strategy for the location of major development in Dundee, Angus, Perth and Kinross and North Fife.
The strategy, which will replace existing council structure plans when it is approved by Scottish Ministers, will set out a framework for growth in the Dundee City region.
Cllr Will Dawson, who chairs the TAYplan joint committee said: "This is a key stage in the production of the strategic land use planning document.
"Now that we have agreed the Main Issues Report for consultation and its associated documents, the four constituent councils will look at our recommendations for their interest and ratification.
"This means we are now approaching the main stage where everyone with an interest can get involved and give us their views on what they think the key issues are and on the strategic options for where much of the new development should be."
The consultation will officially start in April and will include a series of events for local councillors, community councils and the general public, details of which will be advertised nearer the time.
The consultation will last for 12 weeks and result in a clearer and more inclusive strategic plan for the development of the TAYplan area.
Further information on the consultation, including how to take part, and the role of TAYplan can be found on www.tayplan-sdpa.gov.uk
