Scottish Federation Gets New President

Construction News Image
Jamie Pert, joint Managing Director of Montrose-based building firm Pert-Bruce Construction Ltd, has been elected the new President of the Scottish Building Federation (SBF), the leading trade body for construction in Scotland.

Jamie assumes his position at the helm of the Federation’s Management Committee taking over the reins from immediate Past-President Ian Robb.

Michael Levack, Chief Executive of SBF said: "These are tough times for Scottish construction. Jamie is taking on this critical role at a time when the industry continues to suffer challenges as a result of the economic downturn which has seen output fall significantly and the loss of thousands of jobs. The outlook for the forthcoming year remains difficult.

"Now more than ever, the industry needs the benefit of clear leadership and our new President will play a crucial role in fighting the industry’s corner. Jamie brings significant experience, enthusiasm and vision and I am confident SBF will go from strength to strength under his Presidency."

Jamie, a former Senior Vice President of SBF, was educated at Montrose Academy before completing his Accountancy Diploma at Napier College and joining WW Pert Construction Ltd in 1979. He trained thereafter as a Building and Quantity Surveyor and is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (ACIOB).

Created out of a merger between James Bruce and Son and WW Pert Construction Ltd in 2005, Pert Bruce Construction Ltd employs around 80 people and has an annual turnover of £6million.

Jamie Pert said: "I'm very pleased to have been appointed President of the Scottish Building Federation. Our industry faces significant ongoing difficulties as a result of the recession and I am keen to take up the responsibility of ensuring that SBF continues to press home the case for Scotland’s building sector to be properly supported with a steady supply of new work.

"SBF has a crucial role to play in protecting the industry within Scotland, fighting for its best interests and driving Scotland’s economic recovery. I’m delighted to be able to play my part in fulfilling that role."
