Morgan Ashurst is putting its weight behind an initiative designed to reignite young people’s passion for playing rugby in Scotland.
The company, headquartered in Scotland at Glasgow Airport Business Park, has sponsored the Lanarkshire Schools Cup – a new tournament for North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire secondary schools.
The cup will see school squads battling it out competitively at sites all over Lanarkshire, culminating in a final to be played on 11 May at Dalziel Park.
Being organised by North Lanarkshire Council’s rugby development officer Ali McCall, the tournament will give students from different schools an opportunity to play organised matches against each other outside of school hours.
Scott Wilson, Morgan Ashurst business development director, said: "With a large proportion of our work coming from the education sector we wanted to do something that will benefit the young people who will be using the facilities we create.
"This is a fantastic initiative which will give our young people a chance to learn and develop the sport as well as providing something positive for them to do when they’re not at school and keeping them fit and healthy at the same time."
Morgan Ashurst is currently involved in revolutionising school buildings across Lanarkshire. The company is one of South Lanarkshire Council’s construction partners for the £850 million Primary Schools Modernisation Programme, which will see 124 schools re-built or refurbished by 2016.
The firm was also part of South Lanarkshire Council’s £319 million secondary school modernisation PPP – the largest education PPP in the UK. The firm is also part of North Lanarkshire Council's £300 million Schools and Centres 21 framework, a four-year deal which includes the construction of new primary and secondary schools, early education and additional community facilities across North Lanarkshire.
