Clydeview Residential Home Gets The Go-Ahead

Planning permission has been granted to demolish and rebuild the old Clydeview Residential Home on East Montrose Street, Helensburgh.

The Home, formerly owned by CrossReach, the Social Care arm of the Church of Scotland, has fallen in to disrepair after CrossReach relocated its residents to more suitable accommodation and then sold the property to Dunbritton Housing Association.

The housing association are now working in partnership with CrossReach to demolish and rebuild the property to provide Progressive Care Facilities for older people with a variety of needs.

The new build will provide 36 flats, of which 29 will accommodate 2 persons and 7 will accommodate 3 persons. The space standards will comply with the Housing for Varying Needs design guidance and therefore the flats will allow full wheelchair use throughout.

There is an overnight flat which can be used for respite care and most flats have a south facing aspect and views to the Firth of Clyde except 6 flats which face East Montrose Street.

The project Architect up to planning permission is Jim O’Neil from Glasgow based Architects, Austin Smith Lord.

Dunbritton will be looking to demolish the existing buildings as soon as possible.

Due to funding constraints, it is unlikely that building works will start until 2011. The total cost for the project will be £6.5 million and costs will be met from a mixture of Scottish Government Grant, Argyll & Bute Council’s Strategic Housing Fund and private finance raised by Dunbritton.
