Home Builders Gear Up For Low Carbon Challenge

Home builders in Scotland are gearing up to address the low carbon agenda with the introduction of new Building Standards which mean Scotland now has the highest technical standards of anywhere in Europe.

Whilst the carbon emissions of new build homes have already been reduced by 60% on 1990 levels, industry body Homes for Scotland is helping builders to understand the new challenges with a series of special training workshops around the country during October and early November.

The inaugural event, entitled “Policy Framework” and which will be held in Edinburgh on 7th October, will focus on the challenges to be met by the industry.


The second session, “Information Flow” (Dundee - 21st October), will concentrate on the support network which is available to home builders. At “Upskilling for Climate Change” in Inchinnan on 29th October, delegates will hear about the future Skills agenda and the training which is currently available within Scotland.

The final workshop, “Technical Delivery” in East Kilbride on 5th November, will showcase a number of Homes for Scotland member companies which have already developed products with low carbon credentials.
