Aberdeenshire Council will launch a free advice brochure to provide guidance on the care and maintenance of historic buildings at an event to celebrate the Peterhead Regeneration Scheme later this month.
The booklet ‘Advice for Sustainable Maintenance of Traditional Buildings’ includes information on roofing, gutters, drainpipes, window frames and the importance of using appropriate trades people.
A ‘Ten Minute Home MOT' is also included to get people to think about issues that could cause problems from plants growing out of chimneys to missing roof tiles.
There’s also a useful section with contact information where people can find further information on maintaining traditional buildings, repair or courses in traditional building skills.
Chairman of Aberdeenshire Council’s Transportation and Infrastructure Service Councillor Peter Argyle said: “Conserving Aberdeenshire’s buildings, both large and small, is important from both a historical and an economical viewpoint and the tips in the brochure will play a part in getting people to spot problems and take action.”
Vice Chair Councillor Jill Webster added: “Maintaining buildings that date back hundreds of years will make sure they stand for hundreds of years more and I welcome this brochure in encouraging people to care for historic properties.”
The brochure will be launched at an event on Saturday, October 23 from 11am – 4pm at Arbuthnot House.
