Travis Perkins, one of the UK’s leading builder’s merchants has chosen the Port of Grangemouth, owned by Forth Ports PLC, as its key distribution base to support its growing number of Scottish branches.
The 20,000 sq.ft. warehouse space at Grangemouth will enable the company to make significant savings by consolidating distribution to its 48 branches across Scotland, while helping to better manage stock levels.
The unique location of Grangemouth provides the Travis Perkins Group with fast access to transport links across central Scotland and beyond. The Port is also providing a dedicated support team for booking, controlling stock levels and dispatch.
Travis Perkins has been a customer of Forth Ports PLC for over 15 years with a key distribution centre at the Port of Tilbury on the Thames serving the south east coast of England. Building on this experience, the Scottish Distribution Centre has been established where deliveries by container, coastal vessel and road can be accommodated.
Joel Brown, Group Supply Chain Development Manager from Travis Perkins said: “Our business is thriving in Scotland and we need to service our growing number of branches across the country. Setting up central distribution in the Port of Grangemouth which is itself central, allows us to offer our branches a consistent level of supply service, improving our end-to-end customer experience.
“Locating the warehouse at the Port means that we can take advantage of direct imports for products that would have previously travelled by road. This means that for each container we bring in direct we are able to remove up to 400 road miles from the products journey.”
Charles Hammond, Group Chief Executive of Forth Ports PLC said: “We have a strong relationship with Travis Perkins and by understanding its business we were able to work together to identify opportunities for their operations in Scotland. At Grangemouth we are providing Travis Perkins with a central base to service its branches, manage stock costs and support further growth.”
