Highland Council Rejects Wind Farm Plans

Highland councillors have rejected plans for 23 turbines at Druim Ba between Kiltarlity and Abriachan.

Developer Druim Ba Sustainable Energy proposed creating the wind farm, the turbines of which would reach to 149.5m (490ft) from the ground to the tip of a blade at its highest point, in a forestry plantation 10 miles north of Inverness.

While the Scottish government has still to consider the project, a local Highland Council planning committee voted against the plans.

Druim Ba Say No Action Group also opposed the application calling the scheme "obscene", "terrible" and "horrific."

Councillors said the visual impact and the effect on an important tourist area would be unacceptable.

Group secretary of the 100-strong Druim Ba Say No Group, Denise Davis, said: "I am extremely pleased to see that our local representatives have put aside personal opinions and party policy and voted against this development."
