Preventative Maintenance To Be Reviewed

Spending proposals for £1.1m of planned preventative maintenance works on buildings and roads are to be reviewed by Dumfries and Galloway Council's Policy and Resources committee.

The need to increase funding for planned preventative maintenance was identified by the Council's corporate strategy investment group, which was established earlier this year to improve the Council's capital planning arrangements.


The Council's Policy and Resources committee are to review the works to be progressed and the amount of funding required; the process to determine how the funding can be used to best effect; the benefits to the Council from the additional spending; and how best to secure maximum local benefit through procurement of the works.

Chairman of the Council's Policy and Resources committee, Councillor Ivor Hyslop, said: "At a time when our Council is under severe economic pressure, it is essential that we do all we can to reduce demands on the public purse. By looking ahead, being proactive, and investing in planned preventative maintenance, we can reduce or remove the need for our Council to carry out expensive capital works in the future."
