Major Road Works In Hamilton 'Mainly Nocturnal'

Vital resurfacing work is currently underway on Whistleberry Road in Hamilton.

In a bid to minimise disruption, work is carried out at night and the road is completely closed from 8pm to 6am.

No vehicles can access the road during these times and anyone requiring access to Whistleberry Road will need to park nearby and walk.

The works will be carried out in four phases and local diversions will be in place which will be clearly signposted.

Phase one commenced on Saturday 1st to Monday 3rd, from the junction of Whistleberry Park west to the junction where Whistleberry Road goes under A725 at the East Kilbride Expressway.

The second phase, which concludes on Wednesday 5th, is from the end of the westbound slip road off A725 to the junction with Whistleberry Park.

Phase 3 finishes up on Friday 7th and takes place from the roundabout at the junction with A724 Glasgow Road, to the junction where Whistleberry Road goes under A725 at the East Kilbride Expressway.

The fourth and final phase commences on Thursday 6th to Wednesday 12th - from the junction where Whistleberry Road goes under the A725 East Kilbride Expressway, and along to the eastbound slip road off the A725.

The chair of the council's Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor Chris Thompson, said: "We apologise in advance for any inconvenience the works may cause but hopefully this will be kept to a minimum because of the overnight working.

"We have also contacted many of the businesses in the area to establish dates and times for the work to suit everyone.

"However, with some of the businesses operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week it has proved impossible to accommodate everyone. That's why we have chosen this option which will cause the least disruption.

"I would like to thank the public in advance for their patience and ask that if you need to drive in the area during the works that you leave extra time for their journey.

"I am sure everyone will appreciate the difference these works will make to the road."

Work is scheduled to finish on Wednesday 12 October.
