Pupils at a Kemnay school have teamed up with a renowned visual artist to plan a sculpture for a new housing development.
Huntly-based property company Deveron Homes has commissioned artist Mary Bourne to sculpt a piece of public art for a development of 54 eco-homes at Cairn View, Kemnay.
During a recent visit to Alehousewells School, Mary spent time with P5 pupils explaining the work of a sculptor and listened to their ideas.
The children also enjoyed a riverside walk to help select a range of indigenous trees for the project and sketched breeds of native fish, which will form part of the final project.
With previous clients ranging from Dundee City Council to the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh and the city of Nanao in Japan, Moray-based Mary Bourne has extensive experience in creating art for the public to enjoy, with natural stone her favoured medium.
She said: "Of course the children know this place very well – they have been my guides this morning – but art allows you to look at your own place with fresh eyes - and, I hope, value it all the more."
Deveron Homes' sales director Lynne Holburn added: "We are eager to see how the design develops and look forward to working with Mary and the school as the months progress."
Cairn View comprises 54 two, three, four and five bedroom family eco-homes and prices start from £199,950 with luxury upgrades and king-size rooms as standard.
