A man who burnt a huge pile of rubbish in a bid to undercut his competition must serve 160 hours of community service.
James Moffat Cunningham burnt 30 square metres of plasterboard, fibreboard, wood and plastic without a waste management licence.
He was convicted of environmental offences at Edinburgh Sheriff Court after Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) officers caught him burning the waste, which was giving off smoke and a thick stench.

The offence was committed at the Clippens, Straiton Road, Loanhead, the same address where Mr Cunningham has registered a company called Cameron Skip Hire.
When asked, Mr Cunningham admitted he knew that what he was doing was illegal.
Michael Smith of SEPA said: "Burning mixed waste of this nature includes a detrimental effect upon the general amenity of the locality caused by black smoke. Additionally, there may be a risk to the human respiratory system of people in the vicinity depending upon the chemical content of any resultant fume emissions. Mr Cunningham would appear to be attempting to gain a commercial advantage over other companies engaged in waste management activities by avoiding financial costs associated with the lawful disposal of waste materials. Although SEPA always tries to work with business and industry to protect the environment, we will take steps against those who refuse to comply with the legislation."
