Scotland's Oldest College Refurbished At £28m Cost

A Scottish property and construction consultants company has overseen the final stage of refurbishment work at Coatbridge College.

Hardies Property & Construction Consultants helped upgrade the lecture theatre, a new street area, the entrance foyer, several classrooms and a refectory in the North College building.

The company, which has been involved in the £28m project from the outset, also oversaw the construction of a new glass atrium linking two existing buildings at the College.

The new college is now more user friendly and allows greater access for the disabled.


Derek Ferrier from Hardies said: "We have acted as a kind of lynchpin in this project to produce a facility here in Coatbridge of which everyone can be proud - the College now has a fully resourced, modern and accessible campus."

Coatbridge College was established over 145 years ago and has evolved with the times to reflect changes in industry and commerce. As Scotland's oldest College it now offers a whole range of courses such as Automotive & Transport, Dental Studies, Business and Management and Performing Arts.

Principal John Doyle said: "The college now has a state of the art, modern, fully accessible estate to complement the high quality learning and teaching delivered by staff. We are very pleased to have Hardies as our Project Management Partner, who have played a critical role in all aspects of this successful development. Without their continued and professional support we would not have achieved such success."
