Midlothian Council Completes First Phase Of New Build Programme

Midlothian Council has successfully completed the first phase of its new build social housing programme.

The last house in the last development in Phase 1 has just been finished, and it is now moving on to Phase 2.

864 quality, affordable homes for Midlothian families were built since 2006 at a cost of £108 million as part of Phase 1. These include developments in Dalkeith, Bonnyrigg, Newtongrange, Gorebridge, Mayfield, Lasswade, Loanhead and Penicuik. Phase 2 will see a further £60 million invested, which will bring the council closer to delivering a total of up to 1500 new, affordable Midlothian homes since 2006.


Cllr Owen Thompson, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: "Providing affordable homes for local residents is one of this council's top priorities. We know that good quality, affordable housing can make a huge difference to people's lives. We are now embarking on the second phase, starting with the construction of 31 new homes and 32 Extra Care Homes in Penicuik."
