Pupils and staff have celebrated the opening of the new Meldrum Primary school.
The primary school in Deans, Livingston has undergone a £2.9 million redevelopment and was formally unveiled at a celebratory ceremony.
A significant part of the school was demolished and replaced with a state-of-the-art single stream school with an extended games hall- eight new classrooms, including a four class room extension at the West End of the site. The new school is on a single level and incorporates 'breakout' spaces between the classrooms. The school grounds have been re-landscaped to suit the redeveloped building incorporating new shrubs and a ramp for disabled access.
Former councillor and local resident Bruce Ferrie was invited to officially open the school. He said: "It was absolutely wonderful to visit the new school and join in the celebrations. The work carried out has completely transformed the school and I know that parents, staff and pupils are delighted with the outcome.
"The old building was built in 1976 and served the community well. However, it was simply no longer suitable for learning or teaching. This is a proud day for the local community and I'm thrilled for the parents, staff and pupils."
Executive councillor for education, Lawrence Fitzpatrick added: "As part of the redevelopment the internal services were replaced, a new heating system installed and the walls were upgraded to provide high levels of thermal and acoustic insulation. The pupils I met today were delighted with their new school and surroundings."
