Inverclyde Councillors and head teachers have been visiting a new education project, set to be one of the biggest campuses in Scotland.
The new Port Glasgow shared campus is being built by Inverclyde Council and will be home to Port Glasgow and St Stephen’s High Schools.
The campus will also be the location of a new additional support needs (ASN) School, Craigmarloch, which will replace the Glenburn and Lilybank Schools.
The visitors were shown round the site to see how work on the £44m project is progressing.
Inverclyde Council leader Stephen McCabe, said: "The construction work is coming along really well at the new campus. As the schools start to take shape, it’s incredible to see the scale of the work involved in creating this new campus.
The two high schools involved in the project are currently based at the St Stephen’s High School campus, which has been modified to accommodate them temporarily.
Eight temporary classrooms and a new entrance, reception and administration area for Port Glasgow High School have been installed.
When the new site is complete, both secondary schools will, according to Inverclyde Council, "have their own distinct entrances allowing their individual identities and ethos to be retained."
Each school will have its own foyer area leading to its own teaching spaces, while the foyers will have direct access to a common social area within the campus, connecting to the Craigmarloch School and providing access to all shared facilities.
Councillor McCabe remarked: "Our schools programme is ambitious right across Inverclyde and is set to serve us well for many years to come. This shared campus will be a fabulous resource for our children and young people."
