A Glasgow based swimming pool specialist has won a contract to assist in the building of a new water ride for European holiday company Center Parcs.
Barr & Wray, based in Hillington in the south of the city, won the £700,000 contract to work with Canadian firm ProSlide Technology as part of a refurbishment of Center Parc’s Elveden forest village in Suffolk.
Barr & Wray has recently enjoyed commissions related to both the 2012 Olympic Games in London and the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
This latest contract will see the firm help build the 'Tropical Cyclone': a new £4m water ride which, according to Center Parcs, seeks to emulate the experience of "rafting three of the greatest rivers on Earth with water flow reaching a staggering 25,000 litres per minute."
Barr & Wray's previous work includes the fitting of cooling systems and fire-fighting pumps at the Faslane nuclear submarine base.
It also worked on the water systems of seven temporary pools around London, and won a £400,000 commission to build the hydrotherapy centre at Glasgow’s National Indoor Sports Arena for the Commonwealth Games.
Lorne Kennedy, European pools and spas sales director at Barr & Wray, said: "With the London Olympic legacy activity, refurbishment and creation of new leisure facilities in Renfrewshire and at Pickaquoy on Orkney, we’re seeing some increased activity in the leisure market.
"There has been a real focus on sport and leisure this year, with the success of the 2012 Games putting sport and swimming very much in the spotlight."
