New North Lanarkshire council homes are to be built on the site of a former primary school in Airdrie.
The former Albert Primary School site hold the £1.3m development, which will create 14 new two-bedroom flats as part of North Lanarkshire Council’s 'Building for the Future' programme.
The disused school buildings have been demolished.
The contract is being taken up by Lovell, which is a framework partner of the Council.
The 40-week construction programme is due to take part in spring 2013.
Lovell says it will be creating four new jobs and an apprenticeship, along with work experience placements on site and at its Glasgow headquarters.
"Our new-build programme is making great progress," explains Councillor Sam Love, Convener of Housing and Social Work Services, "and the approval of this latest contract with Lovell ensures this momentum continues."
Lovell will be visiting local schools near the planned site to hold health and safety presentations.
This development sees the company’s continued partnership with the Council, as Lovell have worked on a range of projects over the past decade, including housing refurbishment and new-builds.
"It’s great to be working with North Lanarkshire Council on this new-build development that will create both much-needed new homes for social rent and valuable work and training opportunities," says Lovell regional director Alan Taylor.
"As a business, we are committed to leaving a solid legacy of positive benefits in the communities where we work."
